Linzertorte is an Austrian dessert that is usually prepared during the holiday season. The linzertorte is composed of a base of almond shortcrust pastry flavored with cinnamon, vanilla and lemon peel then stuffed with red currant jam. Linzertorte takes its name from the city of Linz and is considered the oldest cake in the world, its first recipe dates back to 1653 and can be found in the Buech von allerley Eingemachten Sachen cookbook.
